Type species: Ionomidotis irregularis (Schwein.) E.J. Durand
Ionomidotis was introduced by Durand (1923) based on a strong ionomidotic reaction (Bexuding a deep violet solution with KOH^), blackish violet-brown or olive apothecia, being often elongated on one side and partly arising from a common base, a parenchymatic ectal excipulum, and small hyaline ascospores.
