Facesoffungi number: FoF 05954
Taxa are saprobic or fungicolous. Ascomata are apothecial, rarely cleistothecial. Apothecia are cupulate to discoid, stipitate. The margin and exterior surface are smooth or sometimes with hairs. Hairs are cylindrical, septate and mostly hyaline. The ectal excipulum is composed of cells of textura prismatica or textura globulosa and medullary excipulum is composed of cells of textura intricata. Paraphyses are cylindrical. Asci are 8-spored, cylindric-clavate, amyloid, rarely nonamyloid and sometimes arising from croziers. Ascospores are ellipsoid to allantoid, hyaline, 0–4- septate and form microconidia by budding (Zhao et al. 2013, 2016, Zhuang 1988, Nannfeldt 1936, Jaklitsch et al. 2016, Spooner 1987). Cleistothecia are characterized by sub-globose shape and peridium composed of cells of textura angularis and evanescent asci (Galán et al. 2015). Asexual morphs are hyphomycetous and phialidic (Jaklitsch et al. 2016).
