Saprobic on dead stems. Sexual morph: Apothecia 2–10 cm diam., gregarious, stipitate, superficial on the substrate. Receptacle saddle-shaped or sometimes trilobate, reddish-brown to dark brown, wrinkled to convoluted. Disc reddish brown to dark brown. Margins curved, concolorous to the disc. Stipe lighter than the receptacle. Ectal excipulum composed of cells of textura angularis. Medullary excipulum composed of hyaline, septate cells of textura intricata. Paraphyses 6–8 µm wide at the apices, numerous, septate, slightly enlarged and reddish at the apices. Asci 280–340 x 12–16 µm, 8-spored, unitunicate, operculate, cylindrical, rounded at the apex, non-amyloid. Ascospores 18–22 9 8–10 µm, uniseriate, hyaline, ellipsoid, non-apiculate, thick-walled, with two large oil droplets. Asexual morph: Undetermined.

Notes: Gyromitra infula is characterized by its saddleshaped or sometimes trilobate, reddish-brown to dark brown apothecia and non-apiculate guttulate ascospores (Beug et al. 2014).
