Saprobic on soil. Sexual morph: Apothecia 2–3 cm diam. and 4–12 cm high, gregarious, stipitate, superficial on the substrate. Receptacle saddle-shaped to irregularly lobed and convoluted, black. Stipe yellowish, long, enlarged at base with rounded, longitudinal ribs. Ectal excipulum composed of few layers of sub-angularis to palisade cells. Medullary excipulum composed of cells of textura intricata. Paraphyses 4–5 µm wide, numerous, septate, filiform, brownish. Asci 250–300 x 15–20 µm, 8-spored, unitunicate, operculate, cylindrical, rounded at the apex, non-amyloid. Ascospores 18–22 x 12–18 µm, uniseriate, hyaline, ellipsoid, thick-walled, with one large oil droplet. Asexual morph: Undetermined

Notes: Helvella pseudolacunosa is characterized by its stipe which is enlarged at the base and with rounded, longitudinal ribs (Ariyawansa et al. 2015).
