Saprobic on soil. Sexual morph: Apothecia 2–5 cm diam. and 2–8 cm high, gregarious, sub-stipitate, superficial on the substrate. Receptacle rabbit ear-shaped to irregularly cup-shaped, upper surface red brown or pale red brown, outer surface dark brown, smooth. Margins curved, concolorous to receptacle. Stipe concolorous to receptacle, short. Ectal excipulum composed of thin walled, hyaline paliform cells. Medullary excipulum composed of cells of textura epidermoidea. Paraphyses 2–4 µm wide, numerous, septate, filiform. Asci 280–320 x 17–23 µm, 8-spored, unitunicate, cylindrical, rounded at the apex, non-amyloid. Ascospores 12–18 x 8–12 µm, 1-2-seriate, hyaline, ellipsoid, thick-walled, with one large oil droplet. Asexual morph: Undetermined.

Notes: Wynnella silvicola is characterized by its rabbit ear-shaped apothecia with red-brown or pale red-brown receptacle surface, and broadly ellipsoid ascospores (Beug et al. 2014; Zhao et al. 2016).
