Saprobic on soil. Sexual morph: Apothecia 2–6 cm diam. and 3–8 cm high, gregarious, stipitate, superficial on the substrate. Receptacle conical to oval shaped, pitted, with distinctively deep vertical-ridges and ladder-like horizontal-ridges, brown. Stipe paler than the receptacle, short, swollen at the base. Paraphyses 6–9 µm wide at the apex, numerous, septate, filiform, slightly enlarge at the apices. Asci 170–220 x 12–18 µm, 8-spored, unitunicate, cylindrical, rounded at the apex, non-amyloid. Ascospores
12–17 x 8–12 µm, 1-2-seriate, aseptate, hyaline, ellipsoid, thick-walled. Asexual morph: Undetermined.
