Saprobic on soil. Sexual morph: Apothecia 1–3 cm diam. and 5–10 cm high, gregarious, stipitate, superficial on the substrate. Receptacle conical to bell-shaped, pitted, longitudinally wrinkled, yellowish-brown when fresh, dark brown to black when dry. Stipe white or cream, surface granulated. Ectal excipulum composed of hyaline paliform cells. Medullary excipulum composed of hyaline cells of textura intricata. Paraphyses 4–6 µm wide at the apex, numerous, brownish, septate, slightly enlarge at the apices.
Asci 320–420 x 20–25 µm, 2–3-spored, unitunicate, cylindrical, rounded at the apex, non-amyloid. Ascospores 60–80 x 20–25 µm, uniseriate, aseptate, hyaline, ellipsoid to fusoid, thick-walled, granulated. Asexual morph: Undetermined.

Notes: Verpa bohemica is characterized by its stipitate bell-shaped apothecia with longitudinally wrinkled pileus and 2–3 spored asci (Kuo 2005).
