Saprobic on soil. Sexual morph: Apothecia 4–10 cm diam., gregarious, sessile. Receptacle cupulate, external surface rough, granulate with hair like appendages, dark brown when dry. Disc concave, dark brown when dry. Ectal excipulum composed of brownish, cells of textura globulosa. Medullary excipulum composed of hyaline, cells of textura globulosa to angularis. Paraphyses 2.5–4 µm wide, numerous, septate, filiform, slightly enlarged at the apices. Asci 200–250 x 8–15 µm, 8-spored, unitunicate, operculate, cylindrical, rounded at the apex, amyloid. Ascospores 10–15 x 5–10 µm, uniseriate, aseptate, hyaline, ellipsoid, thick-walled with finely verrucose surface, sometimes embedded in a gelatinous sheath. Asexual morph: Undetermined.
