Saprobic on dead wood. Sexual morph: Apothecia 667–672 x 1340–1344 µm, superficial, mostly solitary, yellow, cupulate. Receptacle concave, margins are dark brown, covered with spines. Spines dark brown, thick walled with thin septa. Excipulum 59–63 µm wide with few cell layers, ectal excipulum comprising with light brown cells of textura epidermoidea and medullary excipulum comprising with hyaline cells of textura intricata. Hymenium hyaline. Paraphyses 2–3 µm wide, numerous, filamentous, septate, slightly swollen at the apex. Asci 75–80 x 6–7 µm, 8-spored, unitunicate, cylindrical, long pedicellate, inoperculate. Ascospores 23–27 x 2.5–3 µm, uniseriate, aseptate, ellipsoid, hyaline, guttulate, rough walled. Asexual morph: Undetermined.

Notes: Trichophaea cf. boudieri is distinguished by its yellow cupulate apothecia and thick spines at the margins of the apothecia (Dennis 1978).
