Sarcosoma globosum

Saprobic on soil. Sexual morph: Apothecia 5–10 cm diam., gregarious, sessile, slightly erumpent, roundish, barrel-like, dark brown-blackish. Receptacle cupulate, external surface velvety, black. Disc concave, dark brownblackish. Paraphyses 2.5–4.0 µm wide, numerous, septate, filiform, slightly enlarged at the apices, brown, brittle, as long as the asci. Asci 250–300 x 35–38 µm, 8-spored, unitunicate, operculate, cylindrical, rounded at the apex, smooth, non-amyloid. Ascospores 25–28 x 8–9 µm, uniseriate, aseptate, hyaline, ellipsoid, thick-walled, guttulate. Asexual morph: Undetermined (Description modified from Ohenoja et al. 2013).
Notes: Sarcosoma globosum is characterized by its barrel-shaped apothecia (Ohenoja et al. 2013).
