Pezizales

Tuberaceae

Tuberaceae Dumort.
Facesoffungi number: FoF 04267
Taxa are saprobic in soil or form ectomycorrhizal associations. Most of the taxa are hypogeous
truffles which are characterized by enclosed, underground fruit bodies in which spore dispersal is mediated by dehiscence or animal mycophagy. Their globose to subglobose asci are densely packed inside the ascoma and veins of sterile tissue (Bonito et al. 2013). Nothojafnea form cupulate sessile apothecia while Underwoodia form club shaped apothecia which are widely know as earthtooth fungi (Rifai 1968; Bonito et al. 2013). The genus Underwoodia produce amyloid asci and asci of Loculotuber species become orange in Meltzer reagent (Eckblad 1968; Alvarez et al. 1992). Asexual morphs are hyphomycetous, geniculodendron-like (Laessoe and Hansen 2007). Recent studies are Moreno et al. (2012), Gyosheva et al. (2012b), Bonito et al. (2013) and Lu et al. (2015). .
